About this product
Our own descaler, made for the job and good value. One 500ml bottle of Coffee Cabinet Universal Descaler gives up to 10 descales, depending on how much your machine uses each time.
It is a concentrated lactic acid formula. Lactic acid dissolves the calcium that hard water leaves in boilers, thermoblocks, valves and pipes, and it is the acid most good coffee machine descalers use.
Why descale at all?
Limescale builds up inside every machine, even with filtered water. As it does, coffee comes out cooler, slower and flatter, the crema thins and milk froth suffers. Left long enough, it blocks pipes and valves. Descaling on time keeps the coffee tasting as it should and the machine working.
Which machines?
Bean-to-cup, traditional espresso, pod and filter machines from De'Longhi, Sage, Nespresso, Siemens, Bosch, Philips, Melitta, Krups, Gaggia, Miele and others. Always use the dose and steps in your machine's manual.
Scan the QR code on the bottle for our step-by-step guides and the safety data sheet, or read our descaling guide.
How to use it
- Take the water filter out of the tank, and empty the drip tray and grounds container.
- Pour in the dose your manual gives (usually 50 to 100ml), then top up with water to the level it shows.
- Put a large container under the coffee spout and the milk or steam outlet.
- Start your machine's descale programme and let it finish without stopping it.
- Rinse the tank, fill it with clean water and run every rinse the machine asks for.
- Put the filter back (or a new one) and pour away the first coffee.

Questions
Will it work in my De'Longhi?
Yes. It works in every De'Longhi bean-to-cup and espresso machine. Use the amount your machine's manual asks for, usually 50 to 100ml a descale.
How many descales does a bottle do?
Up to 10. Most machines use between 50ml and 100ml a cycle, so a 500ml bottle gives five to ten descales depending on your machine.
How often should I descale?
Follow your machine's descale light if it has one, with the water hardness set correctly. As a rough guide: every 3 to 4 months in soft water, 2 to 3 months in medium water, and every 1 to 2 months in hard water.
Does using it affect my machine's guarantee?
De'Longhi's manuals recommend their own EcoDecalk. If your machine is still under guarantee and you want to follow the manual to the letter, use EcoDecalk until the guarantee ends; we sell both.
Will it work on other brands?
Yes: Sage, Nespresso, Siemens, Bosch, Philips, Melitta, Krups, Gaggia, Miele and most other domestic coffee machines. Always follow your own machine's descaling instructions.
