The Rivelia needs descaling about every 12 weeks in typical UK water, and more often in hard water areas or when the machine asks. Change its DLSC002 water filter about every 8 weeks. Do both on time and it keeps its heat, pressure and taste for years.

What fits your Rivelia

How to descale a Rivelia

  1. Take out the water filter if one is fitted.
  2. Empty the drip tray and the used grounds container.
  3. Pour the descaler into the empty water tank and top up with water to the level on the bottle.
  4. Put a container that holds at least 1.5 litres under the coffee and milk spouts.
  5. Start the descaling programme from the machine's menu and follow the prompts.
  6. When it asks, rinse the tank, fill it with fresh water and let it run the rinse.
  7. Fit a new water filter, if your machine takes one, and you are done.

Your machine's manual has the exact menu steps for your model.

Beans that suit a Rivelia

Bean-to-cup grinders are happiest with medium roasts that are not oily to the touch. Very dark, oily beans can clog the grinder and the brewing unit over time.

Rivelia questions

How often should I descale a De'Longhi Rivelia?

About every 12 weeks in typical UK water with a water filter fitted, and sooner in a hard water area. Descale straight away whenever the machine's descale light or message comes on.

Which water filter does the Rivelia take?

The De'Longhi DLSC002 water filter. Change it about every 8 weeks, or sooner if the machine asks, and take it out before you descale.

Which model numbers are in the Rivelia range?

Models include EXAM440.35, EXAM440.55, EXAM440.45. The model number is on the label behind the water tank or under the drip tray.

Can I use a descaler that is not made by De'Longhi in my Rivelia?

Yes, as long as it is made for coffee machines. Coffee Cabinet Universal Coffee Machine Descaler 500ml is a lactic acid descaler made for bean-to-cup and espresso machines. Never use vinegar, which can damage the seals.
