The Dedica needs descaling about every 8 weeks in typical UK water, and more often in hard water areas or when the machine asks. It does not take the DLSC002 tank filter, so regular descaling matters even more. Do both on time and it keeps its heat, pressure and taste for years.

What fits your Dedica

How to descale a Dedica

  1. Take out the water filter if one is fitted.
  2. Empty the drip tray and the used grounds container.
  3. Pour the descaler into the empty water tank and top up with water to the level on the bottle.
  4. Put a container that holds at least 1.5 litres under the coffee and milk spouts.
  5. Start the descaling programme from the machine's menu and follow the prompts.
  6. When it asks, rinse the tank, fill it with fresh water and let it run the rinse.
  7. Fit a new water filter, if your machine takes one, and you are done.

Your machine's manual has the exact menu steps for your model.

Dedica questions

How often should I descale a De'Longhi Dedica?

About every 8 weeks in typical UK water, and sooner in a hard water area. Descale straight away whenever the machine's descale light or message comes on.

Does the Dedica take a water filter?

The Dedica does not take the DLSC002 filter used in De'Longhi's bean-to-cup ranges. Check your manual for its own filter, and keep to regular descaling.

Which model numbers are in the Dedica range?

Models include EC685, EC695, EC885, EC890. The model number is on the label behind the water tank or under the drip tray.

Can I use a descaler that is not made by De'Longhi in my Dedica?

Yes, as long as it is made for coffee machines. Coffee Cabinet Universal Coffee Machine Descaler 500ml is a lactic acid descaler made for bean-to-cup and espresso machines. Never use vinegar, which can damage the seals.
